Former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke with TMZ DC’s Jacob Wasserman about the situation involving Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., his health condition and how his family has been dealing with it.
“I think it’s extremely serious, and I’d like to say shame on the Republican Party for basically staying silent while such a powerful Republican senator is lying in a hospital like a vegetable,” Greene said.
Greene followed up her statement by saying that McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, flew to China to meet with the vice president of China days after McConnell was revived with CPR.
“This doesn’t surprise me from the establishment because this is what they support,” Greene said.
Greene said she believes the Republican establishment supports people holding onto power until they are practically dead.
“That is why the state of our country is so pathetic,” Greene said.
Wasserman continued the discussion by asking Greene what Republicans should do to address these issues and whether they should speak out more on situations like McConnell’s.
“McConnell had a stroke on live television—I think it was last year—which was the earliest sign. But none of the elected officials, Democrat or Republican, congressmen or senators, should ever stay in office until they are ailing in health. Joe Biden, who was the former U.S. president, had dementia and was clearly failing on the world’s stage. No shame on every single person in Washington, D.C., that doesn’t call this stuff out,” Greene said.
Greene followed up by demanding that McConnell’s family step up, announce his resignation and take care of him. She did not mince words when she later called out Republicans for what she said is hypocrisy—opposing communism but not saying anything about McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, whom Greene claims is a Chinese spy.
“What woman leaves her husband’s side while he is dead or dying in the hospital to fly to China to meet with the vice president?” Greene said.
