Church of the Resurrection Pastor Adam Hamilton announced Thursday that he will run as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in Kansas.
Hamilton is the founding pastor of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, the largest United Methodist congregation in the United States.
He made his announcement early Thursday at Harmon Park in Prairie Village.
In his remarks, Hamilton spoke about what he described as a growing divide between Republicans and Democrats.
“For the last year, I felt like this is not the America that I love,” Hamilton said. “This is not how we treat people. This is not the hope I have for our country and for my children, for my grandchildren, and we’ve got to do better. We have to do better, and I think you feel that too.”
Hamilton will face incumbent Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who is seeking re-election
